Bladdernut or False Pistachio, Staphylea pinnata

Bush forming its own family Staphyleaceae.

Origin: Central Europe.
Size: 6 m (small tree).
Opposite, deciduous leaves, imparipinnate, composed from 5 to 7 acuminate leaflets, of 25 cm long.
Final, white, pendulous flowers in panicles, in April-May, before leaves.
Fruits: capsules puffed out in three compartments, pointed, 5 cm long.
Use: ornamental tree.


Bladdernut of China, Staphylea holocarpa

Size: 6 - 15 m tall. It is bigger than the Bladdernut.
Leaves: they have three leaflets.
